FC Drive | History
FC DRIVE grew out of the recognition that recreational soccer players who are committed to the game want and need a higher level of play.
The club was founded in May, 2007 by Illinois Soccer Hall of Fame forward Frank Klopas, Fred Hagedorn, and Dana Plotkin to provide families with a quality soccer experience delivered by the finest professional coaches. Frank Klopas (USSF A License) became Director of Coaching and Denis Hamlett (USSF A License) joined Frank shortly thereafter as Co-Director of Coaching.
Fred who was the Team Leader of the 2004 US Olympic Sailing Team and Dana became Co-directors of Operations working with the many dedicated volunteers who came together to help manage the club’s teams and activities.
For the 2008-09 seasons, there are 30 teams with 375 players served by coaches distinguished by their success at the highest levels of soccer (see coaches’ page). In January 2008, Frank became Chicago Fire Major League Soccer Technical Director, and Denis became Chicago Fire Head Coach. Notably, Fred now serves as a national officer of US Sailing.
